The Automotive General Sales Manager (GSM) oversees the dealership’s new and pre-owned vehicle sales operations. This leader is responsible for driving revenue, optimizing sales team performance, managing inventory, ensuring customer satisfaction, and executing dealership strategies to meet or exceed sales goals.
Lead, coach, and motivate the sales team to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly targets.
Monitor and evaluate sales performance metrics; implement corrective actions as needed.
Set pricing strategies, including discounts and promotions, in line with market trends and dealership profitability goals.
Collaborate with the Finance & Insurance (F&I) department to ensure compliance and maximize revenue.
Work with inventory managers to ensure optimal stocking levels of new and used vehicles.
Oversee vehicle aging reports and manage inventory turn.
Coordinate with the reconditioning department to ensure ready-to-sell vehicles are front-line ready.
Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction by maintaining effective processes and addressing customer concerns.
Oversee sales processes and CRM utilization to ensure timely follow-up and strong customer relationships.
Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing sales team, including sales managers and product specialists.
Provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance reviews.
Foster a team culture focused on accountability, professionalism, and ethical practices.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including advertising and sales processes.
Monitor and manage deal documentation accuracy

- Must have a strong background in automotive sales
- 5 years minimum sales experience required
- Steady work and performance history
- Outgoing personality with expertise at developing relationships (i.e., a “people person")
- Excellent appearance, verbal/written communication, strong negotiation, and presentation skills
- Must be a strong closer and possess the ability to ask for the sale and follow through
Automotive Sales Manager - Education and/or Experience
- Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
