General Sales Manager (GSM) – Automotive Dealership

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven General Sales Manager (GSM) to lead our sales operations at a large, automotive dealership in Mississippi. The GSM will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic sales processes, managing and motivating the sales team, and ensuring profitability while maintaining the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in automotive retail management, exceptional leadership skills, and a strong ability to coach, mentor, and inspire a diverse sales force.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, train, motivate, and retain a high-performing sales team including New Car Managers, Used Car Managers, Finance Managers, and Sales Consultants.
- Establish clear sales goals, quotas, and accountability measures.
- Lead daily sales meetings and provide consistent coaching and performance feedback.
- Sales & Business Operations
- Develop and execute sales strategies to meet and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
- Monitor inventory levels and work with the General Manager and inventory managers to optimize new and used vehicle mix.
- Oversee appraisal, pricing, and reconditioning strategies to maximize gross profit.
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer programs, policies, and standards.
- Customer Experience
- Maintain a culture focused on delivering an exceptional customer buying experience.
- Resolve escalated customer concerns in a professional and timely manner.
- Monitor CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) and implement improvement plans as needed.
- Financial Performance
- Review and analyze sales and financial reports to track performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Work closely with the finance and insurance (F&I) team to maximize revenue opportunities while ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations.
- Maintain control of dealership expenses related to sales operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive automotive retail sales management experience, with at least 3 years in a General Sales Manager or equivalent role at a high-volume dealership.
- Proven record of meeting and exceeding sales and profitability objectives.
- Strong knowledge of new and used vehicle operations, inventory management, and F&I processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency with dealership CRM, DMS, and manufacturer reporting systems.
